Unsigned gold watch with polychrome enamel painted dial
–
A rare and early Swiss gold single cased perpetuelle watch with polychrome enamel painted dial and centre seconds, circa 1785. This watch features a gilded and intricately engraved full plate movement with a cylinder escapement, a standing barrel and a gilt metal dust ring. It has a gilt metal swinging weight in the shape of a kidney, mounted on the backplate and flanked by banking springs. The polychrome enamel painted dial depicts a courting gentleman and lady in a romantic garden. It includes a subsidiary dial for hours, marked with Roman numerals, and a minute dial with Arabic five minute divisions, although the minute hand is missing. The edge of the dial features an Arabic numeral track for the centre seconds, along with an arc for regulation beneath a 60 second marker.
–
The watch has a gold single case with finely scalloped edges and a sprung protective cover over the winding aperture. An indistinct incuse mark from the casemaker can be found on the case.

Diameter: 54 mm

Signed: No name

The dial is in good condition, with a minor chip near the 25 mark. The case is well preserved, and the sprung aperture remains intact. However, the movement is only running intermittently.
