A Swiss 18 carat rose gold open faced automatic cylinder pocket watch, circa 1785. Full plate movement, key winding, an early oscillating weight winding mechanism and steel cylinder escapement. White enamel dial with a central polychrome enamel gallant scene, eccentric white enamel time indication with Roman hours and Arabic five minute numerals, center seconds, a regulator scale at 12 o’clock, gold poker & beetle hands. A plain case. Case numbered.

Moyse Gevril (or Moÿse, Gevrille) was born in 1749 in Le Locle as the son of Jacques Gevril and lived in Crêt Vaillant near Le Locle. He became a master watchmaker in 1784 and made pocket watches with automatic winding using an oscillating weight winding mechanism. Moyse founded the company Moyse Gevril & Fils. He died around 1791.
