Gold, enamel and paste-set verge watch

A small and decorative Swiss gold, enamel and paste-set verge pocket watch, circa 1760-1770. and in silver. The case back with a polychrome enamel portrait of a lady in a paste-set frame, paste-set highlights in silver mountings on the translucent cobalt blue enamel border, the band engraved with a repeated pattern, paste-set front bezel. White enamel dial with Roman hours, outer Arabic five-minute numerals and decorative hands. Full plate movement, chain and fusee, three-arm brass balance, ruby endstone. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.

Abraham Colomby (or Collomb, Colombi and Colomb) was a Swiss watchmaker and retailer who came from a famous watchmaking family in Geneva. He was born in 1702 as the son of watchmaker Jean Pierre Collomb (1659-1738) and Jeanne Mussard (1657-1726), the daughter of master goldsmith Jean le Jeune Mussard. Abraham Colomby died in Geneva in 1776.
