Gold quarter repeater with cylinder escapement
–
An extremely rare numbered early 18 carat gold Lépine repeater with center seconds, probably from Breguet’s circle in Switzerland, circa 1800. The open faced plain case of this watch crafted from 18 carat gold has a reeded middle part. The cuvette is inscribed with Repassée par Breguet (Reworked by Breguet). The white enamel dial has a ring with black Arabic hour numerals, outer minute divisions and extremely fine blued steel and gold hands. The movement has an unusual Lépine caliber with a cylinder escapement, quarter hour repeater and rare center seconds.
Dial signed.

Decombaz
It is a well known fact that Decombaz collaborated with Breguet and even created movements for Breguet’s watches. However, the serial number of this particular timepiece does not match with any records in Breguet’s archives. Therefore, it is unlikely that this watch was produced by Breguet’s workshops, but it may have been created in a similar environment.
–
The combination of a Lépine caliber with a repeater and center seconds is extremely rare.
