A very fine lever chronometer for the American market, circa 1882.
An 18k gold engine-turned case, reeded, on the back a floral ornament, the front with depiction of a farm house with millwheel, engine turned gold dome signed: “H.L. Matile, Locle, 1058, Chronometer, 21 fine Rubies”, providing depictions of animals. Enamel dial, radial Roman hours, red Arabic minutes, auxiliary seconds with radial red Arabic numerals, signed “Bartens & Rice, New York”, blued “Fleur de Lys” hands, bridge movement, nickel plated, “fausses côtes” decoration, screwed gold chatons, wolfteeth winding wheels, pink gold train, gold screw compensation balance, blued balance spring with terminal curve, filigree mirror polished steel balance cock, gold escape wheel, special counterpoised lever.
