Very fine quality watch with decorative silver key

A heavy and very fine quality pivoted detent chronometer with a decorative silver watch key in the shape of a hand with a riding crop, made by the Lutz Brothers in le Locle, Switzerland, circa 1860. The numbered case of this watch is crafted from silver and has gold hinges. The white enamel dial has red Arabic five minute- and black Arabic hour numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and blued steel hands. The exceptional quality chronometer movement has a pivoted detent escapement, a helical hairspring, solid gold wheels, screwed gold chatons and a  chain fusee.
The movement is signed.

Lutz Brothers
The company Lutz Brothers in Le Locle was founded around 1850 by the brothers Louis Lutz (*1815, +1873) and Auguste Lutz (*1810, +?). It was considered a manufacturer of high quality pocket watches. They supplied highly refined movements very similar to the calibers of Louis Audemars to the USA and England, where they were encased in high quality American and English cases.
