Gold lever watch with enamel painting

A French 20 carat gold and enamel open faced à toc repeating pocket watch made by Jean-Antoine Lépine in Paris, circa 1775. The movement with a modified lever escapement. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions, outermost Arabic five minute numerals and probably original gold hands. The case with a polychrome enamel scene of a putto in front of rose bushes on the back and a concealed opening button integrated into the rim (typical of original Lépine watches). Cuvette numbered and signed L’Épine Hger du Roy à Paris, dial signed Lépine Invenit et Fecit.

Jean-Antoine Lépine developed and manufactured this caliber around 1775. Only very few of these watches are known, most with a virgule escapement. Numbers 1883, 2042, 2176 and 2190 have been registered.
