Gold key wound chronometer

An English 18 carat gold open faced key wound pocket chronometer made by James McCabe in London, circa 1874. Gilt finished ½ movement with Earnshaw type spring detent escapement, a bimetallic compensation balance, blued steel helical balance spring and diamond endstone. Gold cuvette. White enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and gold Fleur de Lys hands. The case with engraved initials surmounted by a lion’s head on the back. Dial and movement signed, case stamped with maker’s mark AS for Alfred Stram and the London date letter for 1874.
