Gold open faced keywind repeating cylinder watch
–
A fine and rare French 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch made by Breguet et fils, circa 1820. This watch has a mechanical key winding movement featuring a cylinder escapement and an integrated quarter repeating mechanism striking the hours and quarters, signed Breguet and numbered 4182 on the inner case cover. The engine turned silver dial shows elegant Roman numerals for the hours on a plain satin finished chapter ring, outer minute dots, a subsidiary seconds dial at 4 o’clock, and blued steel Breguet hands, signed Breguet et fils at the bottom. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat yellow gold open faced case featuring a finely engine turned guilloché case back, a fluted winding crown, a repeating activation plunger through the pendant, and a sturdy round suspension bow.
