A rare Swiss gold hunting cased keyless pocket chronometer, circa 1885. Nickel movement featuring damascened plates and bridges, Potter’s patented pivoted detent escapement and bridge layout, and a large free sprung bimetallic compensation balance with a blued steel helical spring. The barrel bridge is signed Albert H. Potter & Co., Geneva, and marked with Pat. Oct. 11.75; the balance cock is engraved with Escapement. Pat. Oct. 11.75; the main plate is engraved with Plate desn Pat. Jan. 4.76; and the train bridge is numbered 85. The white enamel dial, signed Albert H. Potter & Co., Geneva, includes Roman numerals, an outer minute ring, a large sunken subsidiary seconds, and blued steel moon hands.

The 18 carat gold case features engine turned covers, a polished band, a snap-on glazed cuvette, a gold pendant and bow, and a case back numbered 68709, 137.

The movement is functioning well. The plates show signs of tarnishing, with minor spots and scratches. The dial has a few small scratches and a slight abrasion near the edge at the 6 o’clock position. The case is in good overall condition, maintaining a well defined engine turning.
