Gilt, enamel and pearl-set watch with centre seconds

A very fine and rare, large Swiss gilt, enamel and pearl-set open faced duplex pocket watch with centre seconds made for the Chinese market, circa 1860. An Empire case, the back finely painted on enamel with a bouquet of summer flowers on a blue ground, pearl-set bezels, pendant and bow. Springloaded glazed cuvette. White enamel dial, narrow radial Roman numerals, outer minute divisions and Arabic 15-minute numerals, blued steel ovoid hands. A foliate engraved gilt movement, Chinese Tixier calibre, shaped plates, free-standing barrel, a Jacot-type Chinese duplex escapement, three-arm bimetallic compensation balance with blued steel winged weights, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Movement signed.
