A large open faced astronomical pocket watch made in Switzerland, circa 1800. The numbered case of this watch, crafted from silver, bears the maker’s mark JR and is engine turned on the back with a central vacant cartouche. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour markers, outer dot minute divisions with Arabic 15 minute numerals, solar and lunar indication at 3 o’clock, subsidiary seconds at 6, the days of the week at 9, the date at 12 and gold spade hands. The full plate movement is fitted with a verge escapement.
