Polychrome enamel painted centre seconds watch by Bovet
–
A Swiss silver gilt, polychrome enamel, and pearl-set centre seconds duplex watch made for the Chinese market, circa 1860. This watch features a frosted gilded Chinese calibre movement with duplex escapement, a bimetallic compensation balance with blued steel moveable weights, a ruby endstone, a decoratively engraved standing barrel, and is signed and numbered Bovet, Fleurier, 826. The white enamel dial is adorned with Roman numerals and blued steel hands, along with a centre seconds hand.
–
The silver-gilt case showcases a back with a polychrome enamel painted bouquet with a classical temple in the background, against a blue guilloché enamel ground, pearl-set bezels, pendant and bow, milled band, gilt hinged cuvette with Chinese signature, and apertures for winding and hand setting. The inside back is stamped BIC in a shield and P incuse, with the cuvette and case back numbered 20506.

Movement runs for short periods and will require servicing and overhaul. The dial is only visible through glass and appears to be in good condition. The case has some scratches on the enamel panel, as well as wear and tarnishing on the gilding, especially on the bow. All the pearls are present.

Signed: Bovet, Fleurier
