Gold and enamel watch in the shape of a turtle
–
A Swiss gold and enamel turtle-form watch with heart-shaped movement, circa 1885. The watch features an unsigned gilded heart-form movement with a cylinder escapement and a flat three-arm balance. The dial is white enamel with Roman numerals and an outer minute ring with Arabic numerals. The case is made of gold in the shape of a turtle, with the animal’s back adorned with enamel in imitation of a tortoiseshell. The turtle’s head, underside, and legs are intricately chased and engraved in a naturalistic manner, with ruby-set eyes and a pendant ring in the form of a serpent. The watch also includes a plain gold polished heart-form cuvette with apertures for winding and hand-setting.

Dimension: 30 x 50 mm

The dial appears to be in good condition when viewed through the glass only. The case has some small chips and scratches to the enamel but is generally in attractive condition. The chased and engraved decoration is also in good condition.

An almost identical turtle decorated in the same manner can also be found at the Patek Philippe Museum.
