An as new, Swiss gentleman’s pocket watch with Jacot’s patented seesaw winding mechanism, circa 1882.
18 Carat gold engine-turned case with engine-turned band, and numbered and signed gold dome. Signed enamel dial with radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds, and gold hands with blued tips. Nickel-plated, stripe-decorated, half-plate movement with patented movement construction, screwed gold chatons, Patents Sept. 64, and November 67, Avr. 70, gold screw compensation balance, and counterpoised lever.

Charles Edouard Jacot des Combes (1817-1897)
He had a reputation as a specialist in the field of escapements; the renowned innovator worked in Switzerland after having worked and researched in his uncle’s factory in the United States for 20 years. His most influential and most commonly used patent was the “Jacot duplex escapement” (also known as the Chinese duplex escapement).
